The Word Became Flesh and Live among Us
Isaiah prophesied the birth of Jesus 500 years before
Then Isaiah the prophet said, "Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you [1] a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and [2] will call him Immanuel. --which means, "God with us."
The Birth of Jesus Christ
Matthew
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother
Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she
was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her
to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had
considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
"Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife,
because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth
to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[3]
because he will save his people from their sins." All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet Isaiah: "The virgin will be with child
and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"[4]
--which means, "God with us."
In the beginning was
the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of
men.
Moses Prophesied about Jesus Years before His Birth
Deuteronomy
The LORD God said to
me: I will raise up for them a
prophet like you from among their brothers; I
will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell
them everything I command him. If anyone does not listen to my words
that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account.
The Magi who is called Wise Men Worshiped
Jesus
After Jesus was born in
Disciple Peter's Confession of Christ
Mathew
When Jesus came to
the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people
say the Son of Man is?"
They replied,
"Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah;
and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
"But what about
you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
Simon Peter
answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the
living God."
Jesus replied,
"Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by
man, but by my Father in heaven.
The People and the Disciples Worshiped Jesus
1. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water
and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning
to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus reached out
his hand and caught him. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of
God."
2. Filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly
Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his
feet and worshiped him.
3. Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is
the one speaking with you." Then the man said, "Lord, I
believe," and he worshiped him.
The Claims of Jesus about Himself and the Validity of
Jesus' Testimony
John
When Jesus spoke
again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever
follows me will never walk in darkness nor he will never taste death, but will
have the light of life."
At his saying the
Jews exclaimed, "Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died
and so did the prophets, yet you say that if anyone keeps your word, he will
never taste death. Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did
the prophets. Who do you think you are?"
Jesus replied,
"If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My
Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. Though
you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like
you, but I do know him and keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced at the
thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad." "You are not yet fifty years
old," the Jews said to him, "and you have seen Abraham!" "I tell you the truth," Jesus
answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"
At this, they picked up stones to stone him.
Jesus Speaks of Life through Himself
"I tell you the truth; whoever hears my word and
believes him who sent me has eternal life and
will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. 25I
tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear
the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. As the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. In reply Jesus declared,
"I tell you the truth, no one can see the
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him
Jesus is the Way
The disciple Thomas
said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know
the way?"
Jesus answered, "I am
the way and the truth and the life. No
one comes to the Father except through me. If you really
knew me, you would know my Father as well.
The Transfiguration of Jesus in the Presence
of His Disciples
Jesus took with him his disciples Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
Jesus Proclaims the Message, but the People Continue in
Their Unbelief
Then Jesus cried
out, "When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in
the one who sent me. When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. I have
come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay
in darkness. "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them,
I do not judge him. I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. There is
a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word
which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. I did not speak of my own accord, but my Father who sent me commanded me what to say and
how to say it. I know that his command leads to eternal life.
The people gathered around him, saying, "How long will you keep us in suspense?
If you are the Christ,[3]
tell us plainly."
Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do
in my Father's name
speak for me, but you do not believe because you are
not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow
me. I give them eternal life, and they shall
never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My
Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all[4]
; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. 30I and the Father are one."
Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, "I
have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you
stone me?"
"We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews,
"but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim
to be God." Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your
Law, 'I have said you are gods'[5]
?If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came--and the Scripture
cannot be broken-- what about the one whom the Father
set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you
accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'? Do not believe me unless I
do what my Father does. But if I do it, even
though you do not believe me, believe the miracles that you may know and
understand that the Father is in me, and I in the
Father." Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.
Jesus Prepares His Disciples for His Departure
"Do not let
your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house
are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there
to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know
the way to the place where I am going."
Jesus Prays for Himself
After Jesus said
this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father,
the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your
Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he
might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true
God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on
earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
Jesus Prays for All Those Who Will Become Believers in
Him
"My prayer is
not for them alone. I pray also for those who will
believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May
they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they
may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to
complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even
as you have loved me. "Father, I want those you
have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have
given me because you loved me before the creation of
the world. "Righteous Father, though the
world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.
Jesus Promises a Comforter Named Holy Spirit
"If you love
me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask my
Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever--
the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him
nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I
will not leave you as orphans; I will come to
you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me.
Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. "All this I have spoken
while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom my Father will send in my name, will teach you all
things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with
you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let
your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. "You heard me say, 'I am
going away and I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad
that I am going to the Father, for my Father is
greater than I.
Warning of the
I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father."
A time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
Disciples Worshiped
Jesus as He gave His Final Commandment

Peter Reminds the People about the Prophesy of Moses
after Jesus Crucifixion and Ascension
Acts 3
"Now, brothers,
I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. But this is how God fulfilled what he
had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Christ
would suffer. Repent, then, and
turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may
come from the Lord,
and that he may send the Christ,
who has been appointed for you. He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God
to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.
For Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise
up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything
he tells you. 23Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off
from among his people.
"Indeed, all
the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken have foretold these days. And you are heirs of the prophets and of
the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, 'Through your
offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.’ When God raised up his
son Jesus, he sent him first to you to bless you
by turning each of you from your wicked ways."
